Whale- there is a first time for everything

i finally gave in to peer pressure and tried a very small piece of whale bacon.

it was thick and opaque white in color. At first, I wasn't quite sure of what it was and I was extremely hesitant to eat it but after coercion and encouragement from my company president, I just threw it back (like a tequila shot).

Now i am filled with remorse and guilt and my whale-loving sister has recently decided to disown me.

It was good though. But not worth it.

i forgot to say whats on my mind. thats kinda what having a blog is for.

so, here goes...

i found nutella today at the imports store and got a little too excited. i let out a minor squeal and the woman behind me doused my newly dry-cleaned jacket in her mini cup of complimentary coffee. it was worth it and that coffee is so good. i bought some guac, olives, pickles and corn chips. it only cost me the price of a small horse, by which i mean a shetland pony, those freaky midget horses you find in dark alleys.

i am currently reading dropsnap online (amazing!), watching black books (on mute so i can listen to music at the same time), listening to the doors (which makes me miss my dad) whoop now tiny dancer, eating low-cal mango jelly, drinking matchaaaa, reading pigeons and peacocks the magazine, thinking about harem pants and oh shit i think i just ate some plastic, and now also thinking about finally sewing my jacket button back on.

i really don't like ironing. if a fat bald man said to me that he would do my ironing, i'd probably marry him. i have a thing for fat baldies anyway, everyone knows that.

i can almost read 2 of 3 japanese alphabets yet still don't know what i'm eating half the time. and i don't even care. i think i'd know if it was whale or horse. my coworker rattled me just the other day when he said in his kaiseki (luxury set meal) at a ryokan in kyoto, there was turtle. what if i accidentally eat turtle? oh no.

rain is miserable. i miss my shoes. i love my friends. kiwis are tasty.

two nights ago, i was riding to the house of curry, coco ichibanya, and i feebly attempted to jump the curb a la tony hawk or some other guy who is good with things or stuff, you know. i fell, i believe only witnessed by a drunken pachinko stumbler- by definition, someone who stumbles to and fro the pachinko parlour.

i came away from the unfortunate incident with only a few minor scrapes and a bruised ego, as i had been recently claiming how much better i had become at maneuvering my pimp-mobile around town.

Unfortunately, some considerable damage was inflicted upon said pimp-mobile.

The Virgin Suicides- a quick review...

My dear amiga Madeleina (also the instigator of this blog), came over today and brought with her the Virgin Suicides on dvd. I had never seen it and was interested to see Sofia Coppola's debut feature.
A few hours have passed and the film is still lingering in my thoughts. The Virgin Suicides is eerie and the girls have an almost ethereal and beguiling quality about them. I almost want to describe the film as translucent as the lighting/cinematography feel quite light and fleeting but the sickening feeling in one's stomach remains and suggests otherwise about the weight of the film. The use of light and shadow in this film is memorable; the days seem long and sparse in the mid 1970's Michigan suburbs under the Elm trees that are constantly being overrun by disease. This film might not be meant to be fully understood although I find it hard to digest this 'lack of ending' as atypical in many post 1995 art house/'Dendy'/'Verona' films... I usually want something more solid, more tangible but in this instance, I enjoy the space, the lack of consequence. The film is abstract and perfect in this way.
James Woods gives a moving performance as the father, not so instantanteously affected by the girls death and virtual imprisonment. He slowly fades like a wilting flower in the summer heat into a 'light' insanity. An honourable mention must go to Josh Harnett for his hair alone, which Madeleine pointed out was reminiscent of Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men. Hideous. His swagger is also giggle-worthy. Very 70's. Also, Kirsten Dunst, without actually saying very much at all, is very well-cast.

If you haven't yet seen My Neighbour Totoro, go check it out in the anime section at your local video gallery. It's very well-known and the Totoro (there are three sizes of Totoro; Huge = Oh-totoro, Medium = chu-totoro and Small = chibi-totoro) are super 'kawaii'.

Oh, this Philippe Starck lamp.. He is a genius. With a set of his Louis chairs, I could be very happy!

This Helmut Newton book is about 1 metre tall and utterly incredible. Furnishing your home with a new photograph every day is an excellent idea. And this book is SEXY!
